GOJO Red Wolf Route: Free Campus and City Transit for A-State Students

Arkansas State University has announced that the Red Wolf Route on the GOJO bus and trolley system is officially running with new stops. For first-year international students — almost none of whom arrive with a car — this changes daily life in a practical way.

Three things to know

• Completely free with an A-State ID. Students, faculty and staff ride at no charge on presentation of a valid A-State ID.
• Both trolleys run 5:30 am to 7:00 pm. Early enough for a first-period class, late enough to get back after an afternoon in the library.
• New stops cover shopping, food and entertainment. The route used to serve mainly on-campus travel; now it connects to the city.

Where the route goes

According to the route map published by the university, the Red Wolf Route links points on campus — residence halls, academic buildings, the University Museum, Centennial Bank Stadium and Tomlinson Stadium — then runs south along Caraway Road, where most of the services students need are concentrated: Kroger Marketplace, Target, Hobby Lobby and T.J. Maxx, along with restaurants including Texas Roadhouse, Raising Cane's, Chick-fil-A and Andy's Frozen Custard.

Put plainly: the weekly grocery run no longer depends on a roommate with a car or on catching the right International Programs shuttle.

The honest answer for a first year at A-State has four parts: campus is walkable, the GOJO bus is free, International Programs runs a grocery shuttle, and friends have cars. The first three cost nothing and depend on nobody.

It also means you do not need to rush into buying a car in your first year — a meaningful saving once you add up the purchase price, mandatory insurance and a campus parking permit.
