SAT/ACT-based scholarships
In addition to the international scholarship, A-State offers SAT/ACT-based awards from $1,000 to $4,000 a year, renewable with a 3.5 GPA (per our office information — the exact amount for each score band is confirmed when you apply). If you have taken the SAT or ACT, send your score with your application; if not, your advisor can help you decide whether taking it is worthwhile to increase your award.

Graduate assistantships — graduate level
At graduate level the largest saving usually comes from an appointment rather than an award. A-State fills more than 200 teaching and research posts a year; holding one means regular income alongside a lower tuition rate, and for some doctoral researchers no tuition bill at all.
What an assistantship gives you
- Paid twice a month
- Master’s students pay the in-state tuition rate (if appointed on or before the 11th class day)
- A full tuition waiver for some doctoral students
- Master’s students count as full-time at 6 credits
- Doctoral students count as full-time at 9 credits

Students from Vietnam
The reduced tuition rate for students from Vietnam
A-State prices tuition separately for students from Vietnam: $5,325 for a 15-credit semester rather than $9,000. What matters practically is that the lower figure is the one printed on your very first invoice — there is nothing to claim back afterwards, and no extra application to file.
Tuition at 15 credits per semester
| Item | Standard international rate | Rate for students from Vietnam |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition per credit | $626 / credit | $355 / credit |
| 15 credits — one semester | $9,000 | $5,325 |
| Academic year (fall + spring) | $18,000 | $10,650 |
These are tuition lines only. Per-semester fees, housing, meals and health insurance are billed at the same rate to every international student and do not move with this figure. The $626 per credit is the 2026–27 international undergraduate rate; the $355 per credit comes from the cost table the university issues for students from Vietnam.

How to receive a scholarship
- 1
Submit a complete application on time
International scholarships are assessed from your admission file itself: transcripts, English score and (if any) SAT/ACT. There is no separate form.
- 2
Meet the GPA and English thresholds
GPA 3.25 (4.0 scale) and the English requirement for full admission. Students admitted conditionally (ELA) are considered when they enter their major.
- 3
Receive the award with your admission letter
The university announces the scholarship in the admission letter or a separate letter. The amount is credited directly to your tuition bill each semester.
- 4
Renew each year
Maintain full-time status and academic progress under the university’s renewal rules to keep the scholarship in later years.
To maximize your scholarship
- Keep your high-school average at the equivalent of 3.25/4.0 or higher
- Take IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo to the required level for full admission
- Consider the SAT/ACT if you can score well
- Apply early, 6–9 months before your intake
- Graduate level: contact the department early for an assistantship
- Ask the office about current offers before applying
Scholarship FAQ
Are there full scholarships for international students?
A-State does not offer automatic full scholarships to international undergraduates. The biggest savings come from combining the $3,000-per-year international scholarship, SAT/ACT awards and on-campus work; at graduate level, an assistantship waives the out-of-state portion of tuition.
My GPA is 3.2. Do I get the $3,000?
The threshold is 3.25/4.0, so 3.2 falls short. However, converting from your own national grading scale may not give the figure you expect — let the office convert your transcript precisely before concluding.
Does the scholarship apply during the ELA?
The international scholarship applies when you enter your major with full admission. For the ELA period, contact the office to confirm any current offers.
Can I lose my scholarship?
Yes, if you do not meet the renewal conditions (academic progress or credit load). The university states the conditions in your award letter; your advisor explains them so you can plan ahead.
Does the scholarship reduce the proof of funds for the I-20?
Yes. The scholarship amount is recorded and lowers the funds you must document for the I-20 — a meaningful benefit for the visa application.
Are partner-office offers university scholarships?
No. They are offers provided by our admissions team under their own conditions, separate from scholarships awarded by A-State. The office provides the details in writing when you get in touch.
