Documents to prepare
- A-State online application and the $50 fee
- High-school transcripts (three years) with certified English translation; diploma or provisional graduation certificate
- University or college transcripts if you are a transfer applicant
- A valid English test score (TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo/PTE) or SAT/ACT — or choose the ELA pathway
- Copy of a valid passport
- Proof of funds (bank statement or balance confirmation) — used for the I-20 after admission
Conditional admission through the ELA
If your academic record qualifies but your English score does not, A-State issues a conditional admission letter. You come to campus and study at the English Language Academy (CEA-accredited, six levels, 11 students per instructor). Completing the top level satisfies the English requirement — no repeat TOEFL or IELTS. Many international students choose this route to build real-world English and settle into campus before starting their major.

→Undergraduate FAQ
Is a 7.5/10 high-school average enough?
Usually yes. The university converts national transcripts to the 4.0 scale; 2.3 is the minimum and 3.25 is the threshold for the $3,000-per-year scholarship. Your advisor converts your exact record before submission.
I am partway through a degree at a university in my home country. Can I transfer?
Yes. Apply as a transfer student with your university transcript (GPA 2.0 or higher). Courses are evaluated individually for credit; with a 3.25 GPA and 24 accepted credits you are also considered for the $3,000 Transfer Scholarship.
Is the SAT or ACT required?
No. SAT/ACT is simply one way to prove English proficiency (EBRW 550 or ACT English 21) and can unlock additional score-based scholarships. You can apply with IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo instead.
What if my IELTS is 5.0?
You still apply as normal and receive conditional admission. On arrival you take the ELA placement test and complete the remaining levels, typically one to two semesters, before starting your degree.
Is the $3,000 scholarship renewable?
International scholarships are reviewed each year under the university’s renewal rules (academic progress and full-time status). Your advisor explains the specific conditions when you receive your award letter.
