Deadlines

2026–27 deadlines and a preparation timeline so you never miss an intake

The university deadline is the last possible date — not the date to aim for. Because scholarships, the I-20 and visa interview slots all take time, our admissions team recommends completing your file 6–9 months ahead.

For graduate study, treat “three months before the undergraduate deadline” as the safe mark. The office confirms the exact date for your program.

The ELA has several entry points a year and more flexible deadlines — but you still need 2–3 months for the I-20 and visa.

Recommended timeline for Fall 2026

Shift the milestones for other intakes according to their deadlines.

  1. 1

    9–12 months out (Aug–Nov 2025)

Advising, choosing a major, English plan

Settle on a pathway (direct entry or ELA), book IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo if needed, and start preparing finances for the I-20.

  2. 2

    6–9 months out (Nov 2025–Feb 2026)

    Submit your application

Certified transcript translations, online application and the $50 fee. Applying in this window puts you in line for early scholarship consideration and leaves time to add missing documents.

  3. 3

    4–6 months out (Feb–Apr 2026)

    Admission letter, deposit and I-20

Receive your admission letter, pay the $350 deposit and submit proof of funds. The university issues your I-20 — required before you can book a visa interview.

  4. 4

    3–4 months out (Apr–May 2026)

    SEVIS fee, DS-160, visa interview

Pay the SEVIS fee at the current rate, complete the DS-160 and book an interview at the US embassy or consulate in your country. Summer slots fill quickly — book early.

  5. 5

    1 month out (Jul 2026)

    Housing, insurance, flights

Reserve campus housing ($100 deposit), enrol in insurance, book a flight to Memphis (MEM) and the university shuttle. Halls open on Aug 15, 2026.

What if the deadline has passed?

Missing a deadline does not end your options, but there are trade-offs. The university may still accept a late application if space remains, yet you are unlikely to get an I-20 and visa in time for that term — especially in the busy fall visa season. Three common options:

Move to the next intake

Apply straight away for Spring or Summer — your file carries over, nothing has to be redone.

Start with the ELA

The ELA has more flexible start dates. Come to campus for English and begin your degree the following term.

Deadline FAQ

Is the deadline in my local time or US time?

University deadlines run on US Central Time, which can be many hours behind your own time zone. To be safe, submit at least a full day before the deadline date.

Is it the deadline to submit the form, or to have every document in?

Your file needs to be complete (application, transcripts, English score, passport) to be reviewed. A form submitted on time but missing documents may be deferred to the next intake — hence the 6–9-month recommendation.

Can I apply for Fall 2027 now?

Yes. The university accepts early applications, and applying 9–12 months ahead gives you scholarship consideration and a relaxed visa timeline. Contact the office to open your file.

Is the Spring intake different from Fall?

The curriculum is the same; Spring starts in January, classes are slightly smaller and visa appointments are easier to get. Some programs admit only in Fall — your advisor will confirm.

Are scholarship deadlines different from admission deadlines?

The $3,000-per-year international scholarship is considered automatically with your admission file, with no separate application. Graduate assistantships are awarded by departments and usually require an earlier application.
