A-State Sets a Fall 2026 Enrolment Record: 18,775 Students
Arkansas State University has reported its fall 2026 enrolment: 18,775 students, up 4.7% on last year’s record of 17,926. It is the university’s sixth consecutive record-breaking fall or spring semester.

Where the growth came from
Most of the incoming class is from the state itself: 1,851 students from Arkansas, more than 82% of the freshman class and a record in its own right. At the Jonesboro campus, domestic first-year enrolment reached 2,045, up 5.9% on fall 2025.
Retention matters as much as recruitment here. A total of 7,138 undergraduates returned to Jonesboro this year against 6,623 last year — students staying says more about the experience than admissions numbers do.
“Growth gives us an opportunity to serve more students, but it also reinforces the importance of student success and making sure all students know they matter here,” said Dr. Nikesha Nesbitt, dean of University College.
Graduate programmes grew fastest
New graduate enrolment rose 21.5% to 1,904, with total graduate enrolment reaching 5,743. That includes the first intake at Arkansas’ first public College of Veterinary Medicine, which opened on 11 August 2026 with 122 students from 35 states.
“There is a clear message from this year’s enrollment data: Arkansas State is becoming a destination of choice for students seeking advanced expertise and lasting career value,” said Interim Provost Dr. Will McLean.
Against fall 2022, when the university enrolled 14,109 students, total enrolment is now more than 33% higher.
What this means if you are applying from abroad
Plainly: this record is driven by in-state students, not by international recruitment. Three things in it do affect you.
- Housing is almost full. The 99.8% occupancy figure is the most consequential number here for anyone about to enrol. The university prioritises first-year students for on-campus housing, but places are finite and allocated in order of application. If you are starting in spring or fall 2027, pay the housing deposit as soon as you are admitted rather than waiting for your visa.
- The university is expanding, not contracting. Six consecutive record semesters and 33% growth since 2022 point to an institution investing rather than cutting programmes.
- Graduate study is the fastest-growing area. A 21.5% rise in new graduate students comes alongside programme expansion — worth noting if you are weighing a master’s or an assistantship.
One caveat so you read the figure correctly: 18,775 is total enrolment across the Jonesboro and Querétaro (Mexico) campuses, not international enrolment. The most recent published figure for international students at A-State is more than 1,200 from over 70 countries.
