A-State Application Timeline for Fall 2027, Month by Month

If you're reading this after November 1, 2026, the Spring 2027 application deadline at Arkansas State University (A-State) has just closed. The good news: two windows remain open — Summer 2027 (deadline March 2, 2027) and, most importantly, Fall 2027 (deadline June 1, 2027), the semester with the widest program selection and the liveliest international student life on campus. This guide breaks the preparation process into a month-by-month countdown from the June 1, 2027 deadline, so you can plan ahead instead of scrambling at the last minute.
Note: all timelines, costs and requirements mentioned here can change from year to year. Always confirm current figures with the Vietnam Office before finalizing your plans.
Why applying early always beats applying at the deadline
A-State scholarships — such as the International Freshman Scholarship (3,000 USD/year, requiring a 3.25 GPA) — are considered directly from your admission application, with no separate scholarship form to submit. Applying early gives you more time to strengthen your grades and any required essays before your file is reviewed, rather than racing against the clock.
Residence hall rooms are also assigned in the order students register and pay the housing deposit (100 USD). Freshmen aged 17 and older are required to live on campus, so submitting your application and deposit early gives you a real shot at your preferred room type (double, single, Collegiate Park, Red Wolf Den, and so on) before popular options fill up.
The backward countdown to Fall 2027 (deadline June 1, 2027)
| Timeframe | What to do |
|---|---|
| Nov–Dec 2026 | Decide on your intended major and assess your current English level; register for or start prepping TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo. Minimum thresholds for undergraduates: TOEFL 61, IELTS 5.5, Duolingo 110; for graduate students: TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 120. If your score isn't there yet, look into the English Language Academy (ELA) — completing ELA removes the TOEFL/IELTS requirement. |
| Jan 2027 | Take or retake your English test if needed; request original transcripts/academic records and start certified English translations. |
| Feb 2027 | Finalize your application (50 USD application fee) and complete any supplemental materials your program requires. If you're still weighing an earlier start, this is also the window to lock in your file for the Summer 2027 deadline (March 2). |
| Mar–Apr 2027 | Track your admission decision; begin gathering financial documentation for the I-20 and research scholarship tiers that match your profile. |
| May 2027 | Pay the international deposit (350 USD) and housing deposit (100 USD) as early as possible, since rooms are assigned in registration order; receive your I-20 form. |
| June 2027 (June 1 deadline) | This is the official Fall 2027 application deadline — but waiting until the last moment means giving up your edge on scholarships and better housing options. |
| June–July 2027 | Pay the SEVIS fee, prepare your documents, and schedule your F-1 visa interview with the US consulate. |
| July–Aug 2027 | Book flights into Memphis (MEM, about 80 miles from campus, with a semester shuttle you can sign up for via oips@astate.edu) or Little Rock (LIT); complete the mandatory health screening and health insurance enrollment. |
| Aug 2027 | Arrive and move into your residence hall. In 2026, halls opened on August 15; the exact 2027 date hasn't been published yet, so check the academic calendar page closer to the semester. |
Targeting Summer 2027 instead?
The Summer 2027 deadline is March 2, 2027 — roughly three months earlier than Fall. If that's your plan, shift every milestone in the table above three months earlier and start your English test prep and transcript work right away.
Building your file: transcripts, translations and English scores
The minimum GPA is 2.3 for undergraduates and 2.75 for graduate applicants. Beyond your original transcripts, you'll need certified English translations — start this early, since notarization, translation and legalization steps often take longer than expected. If your English score isn't at the required threshold yet, the ELA program (six levels, an 11:1 student-to-instructor ratio) is a solid path to build language skills while getting settled before your degree program begins.
From acceptance letter to takeoff: I-20, SEVIS and the visa
The general sequence is: apply, receive your admission letter, get your I-20, pay the SEVIS fee, attend your visa interview, then travel. The exact amount of financial proof required for the I-20 can vary by case, so confirm the current figure with the Vietnam Office before assembling your financial documents. This article deliberately leaves out visa processing times or approval odds, since those depend on consular procedures that can change at any time.
