Which A-State programmes move fastest for international applicants, and the profile each one suits

A word on the title first. This site does not publish processing times, and no responsible partner office should quote one. "Fastest" here means something more useful and more verifiable: the number of separate decisions a file has to survive. A programme where the general entry threshold is the whole requirement moves at one speed. A programme with a departmental test, a portfolio, a clinical placement or a professional licensure gate moves at another, and it should. Knowing which is which is how you set expectations that hold.

A-State runs more than 150 programmes across nine colleges. Below is a read of where the route is clearest, what profile each area actually suits, and one cost point counsellors routinely miss.

The cost point, first

Two students at the same credit load do not pay the same. On top of tuition and the mandatory per-semester fees, a college support fee attaches to each credit of coursework, and it is set by the college teaching the course rather than by the major on the student's file:

CollegePer credit
Business$55
Engineering$50
Nursing courses$46
Sciences$35
Agriculture$27
Nursing$27

A semester mixing electives across colleges can carry two or three of these rates side by side. It is a modest sum, but a family told one number in counselling and billed another in August will remember it.

Engineering and Computer Science

The clearest route in the institution for a well-prepared applicant, and the most self-selecting. Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering hold ABET accreditation, which matters to students who intend to pursue professional engineering recognition later, whether in the United States or in a jurisdiction that gives weight to it. Computer Science, Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering are designated STEM programmes, as is the master's in Engineering Management. Confirm the designation for any specific programme with the office rather than inferring it from the subject name.

Suits: a student with genuine mathematics on their record, not merely an interest in technology. The entry threshold is an institutional minimum; the programme is not. A student admitted at the floor into an engineering major is a retention risk, and you will hear about it in semester two.

Neil Griffin College of Business

AACSB-accredited at undergraduate level since 1979 and for the MBA since 1985 — an accreditation held by a small minority of business schools worldwide and one that employers and later graduate programmes recognise. The undergraduate portfolio covers Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Management, Global Supply Chain Management, and Information Systems and Business Analytics, which carries a STEM designation and is the natural destination for a student who wants a business degree with a quantitative spine.

Suits: the broadest range of profiles in the institution, which is exactly why it is the default recommendation and why the default is often lazy. Push students towards the specific major rather than "business", because Information Systems and Business Analytics and Global Supply Chain Management fit very different students and lead to very different conversations.

The MBA is offered online. Note carefully that online study is not a basis for an F-1 visa; the online MBA is a route for a working professional who is staying where they are, not a cheaper way to reach a US campus.

Beck College of Sciences and Mathematics

Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at undergraduate level and a master's in Statistics, all designated STEM. A-State's Carnegie R2 classification — reaffirmed in February 2025, with research and development expenditure above $10 million in the 2024 fiscal year — is most tangible here, in the form of laboratory work and research involvement rather than in any ranking table.

Suits: the student who intends to continue to graduate study, and the student who wants research experience early. Also the most honest destination for an applicant whose real interest is health sciences but whose record will not carry a clinical programme.

Nursing and Health Professions

The programmes with the strongest published outcome and the most additional gates. Nursing is ACEN-accredited, and BSN graduates recorded a 93.4% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN licensing examination in 2025 (82.5% for the associate degree). Public Health, Physical Therapist Assistant, a master's in Athletic Training and an online Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner programme sit alongside it.

Handle with care. Clinical programmes involve placement capacity, professional licensure requirements and, in some cases, admission cycles separate from general university admission. Do not counsel an international student into nursing on the strength of the general entry threshold. Ask the office, in writing, what applies to international applicants for the specific programme and intake, and tell the family what you find out rather than what you hope.

Agriculture

Agribusiness, Plant and Soil Science, and Animal Science, the latter two designated STEM. This is a genuinely distinctive area rather than a filler: Arkansas is the largest rice-producing state in the United States, and the college sits inside that industry rather than adjacent to it.

Suits: students from agricultural economies, family agribusinesses, and food or commodity supply chains — a profile many partner offices never think to route to a US degree at all, and one where the fit argument almost writes itself.

Education and Behavioural Science

Psychology, Sport Management, teacher education under CAEP accreditation, and a master's in Music Education. Psychology and Sport Management are straightforward destinations for international undergraduates. Teacher preparation is not, because it leads towards a state licensure framework that has requirements of its own; treat it as a programme to ask about rather than to promise.

Liberal Arts and Communication

Multimedia journalism and strategic communication, graphic design, political science and international studies, and a master's in English. Straightforward entry, with one practical caveat: portfolio-based subjects reward students who arrive with work to show, and a student who has nothing to show is starting behind.

The College of Veterinary Medicine

The newest part of the institution, opened on 11 August 2026 with 122 inaugural students from 35 states, offering a four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine applied for through the VMCAS system. International eligibility has not been fully published. Until it is, the accurate answer to an enquiry is that this is a new college with a distinct application route and that eligibility for international applicants is a question for the office — not a soft yes.

The Honors College

An honours track alongside any major, with smaller classes, early research and dedicated advising. Worth raising with any strong applicant, because it costs nothing to ask about and materially changes the experience of a student who would otherwise be under-stretched.

How to use this in a counselling session

  1. Match the record to the programme's real demands, not to the institutional minimum.
  2. Name the additional gates before the family becomes attached to a plan.
  3. Confirm intake availability and any STEM designation with the office rather than inferring either.
  4. Quote cost by college, not by tuition line.

The full programme list is on academics, cost detail on cost of attendance, and programme-specific questions go to the office.
