Northeast Arkansas Leadership Academy Opens Its Second Cohort — and Why We Are Covering It

To save you time: this is not a programme for international students. Applicants must be 21 or older and live or work in Northeast Arkansas. If you are searching for a programme to apply to from abroad, this is not it.

What the programme is

The Delta Center for Economic Development at Arkansas State University has opened applications for the second cohort of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Leadership Accelerator Academy — a year-long leadership development programme drawing participants from across 17 counties.

Participants come from business, education, healthcare, government and the nonprofit sector, and work through six facilitated day-long sessions on communication, strategic planning, leadership under pressure, collaboration across backgrounds, influence and negotiation, and mentorship.

Andrea Allen, executive director of the Delta Center, said: “The Northeast Arkansas Regional Leadership Accelerator Academy is built for leaders who want to make a tangible difference. By investing in the growth of our region’s leaders, we are investing in the long-term success of Northeast Arkansas.”

Applications close Friday 13 November; participants are notified in late November and the cohort begins in January.

So why cover it?

Because it answers a different question, one people rarely ask when choosing a university: what role does this institution play where it stands?

A university that teaches and stops there is a different proposition from one where the region’s business, hospital and government leaders come to learn. The difference reaches students in indirect but real ways: internship networks, employers who know the institution, projects run with local organisations.

For agencies and partner institutions, it is also a concrete example when answering “what kind of university is A-State” with something firmer than a ranking.
