7 A-State Alumni Receive Medical Degrees from NYITCOM at A-State

JONESBORO, AR – Seven Arkansas State University (A-State) alumni were among 113 new physicians to earn medical degrees from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) last week.
Dylan Allbritton, Max Bacot, Shana Childress, Tyler Childress, Dillon Daniels, Logan Meurer and Zac Preston all earned undergraduate degrees from A-State before being accepted into NYITCOM at A-State to complete their Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees.
NYITCOM at A-State held its annual Commencement ceremony on Friday, May 24, at First National Bank Arena.
"We are incredibly proud of each of these new physicians," said Shane Speights, D.O., dean of NYITCOM at A-State. "We are so grateful for our exceptionally strong relationship with Arkansas State University, and it's truly special that these seven physicians were able to complete their medical degrees on the same campus where they earned their undergraduate degrees."
After completing medical school, physicians must complete specialty training to become board certified. Allbritton will specialize in Emergency Medicine at UCF Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. Shana (Pediatrics) and Tyler Childress (Family Medicine) will complete their residencies at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa.
Daniels will complete a transitional year at Baptist Health in Little Rock before moving to the University of Missouri-Kansas City to specialize in Radiology. Bacot (UAMS Northeast, Jonesboro) and Preston (UAMS Northwest, Fayetteville) will specialize in Family Medicine. Meurer will head to Little Rock to specialize in Pathology at UAMS.
NYITCOM at A-State, which opened in 2016 through a public/private partnership between Arkansas State University and the New York Institute of Technology in Long Island, N.Y., operates out of Wilson Hall. The class of 2024 marks the fifth graduating class from NYITCOM's Jonesboro campus.
