A-State Provides Digital Diplomas for All Graduates Starting This Fall

JONESBORO – When a student has completed their program of study at Arkansas State University, their next challenge is finding their first job in their chosen field.
Crystal Blake, assistant registrar at the Registrar’s Office, said that in the past, students only needed a transcript when applying for jobs, but increasingly more employers are requiring a diploma.
From this point forward, students who receive any type of credential from A-State, whether it be a certificate or a diploma, will receive both a paper copy and a digital copy.
“This digital version of the diploma can be shared across all social media platforms, but most importantly, students can provide the digital version of their degree to potential employers. The digital version is certified and can be accessed from any device and location,” Blake said.
The digital diplomas are provided through a partnership with Parchment, the industry leader in providing fast, easy, and secure access to credentials. This new service will be offered free of charge to all graduating students.

“Students will receive an email allowing them to create a Parchment account. Upon logging in for the first time, students are prompted to update their email and actual mailing address. Once students update this information, they will immediately be issued their digital credential,” Blake added.
She said the printed version of the diploma will be sent to students within a few weeks after accepting the digital version. Adding this will benefit all graduating students.
“A-State has many international students as well as students who study only online. Our traditional students often relocate for work after graduation. We want to provide our graduates with a means to access their credentials regardless of time or location,” Blake said.
Blake said she has received calls from students wanting a copy of their diploma immediately, which was not something she could previously help with. Now, students will be able to access their diploma whenever needed with just one click.
Blake added: “It can really help students who need this diploma right away for a job interview.”
This will open doors for future employers and staff and may change regulations and requirements for students.
“Graduates can access their documents through the Parchment website anytime, anywhere, and from any device. Credentials can be downloaded and saved for future use,” she continued.
Although there are 3 commencement ceremonies held each year, there are 7 times a year when diplomas are issued to students. The first group of students to receive digital diplomas were those who completed their educational requirements at A-State in October.
In addition to providing access to digital diplomas, A-State also offers digital transcripts through the National Clearing House. Digital resumes are available through SmartResume. This latest addition puts all the credentials that graduating students worked so hard to earn right at their fingertips.
